Team building activities for your offsite: seven categories and the highlights at each location
18 September 2026

Reading time: about 9 minutes
The short version
- An activity sticks when it only works in that one place. Making your own cheese in the Montafon is something people still talk about three weeks later. Icebreaker bingo in the conference room is not.
- Below you will find seven categories with concrete formats for each location, from food to water to competition.
- Before every booking you need three things: season, who books, how much lead time. Without them, the team ends up in front of a closed door at some point.
- We checked all prices and times directly with the providers in September 2026. They give you an idea of the range, not an offer, and they can change.
Why the place chooses the activity
An escape room works the same in Hannover as in Cologne. A nice afternoon, nothing wrong with that. It is just that by November nobody remembers it.
It is different when the format is tied to the place. At our new Montafon location, the Käsehaus cheese dairy in Tschagguns is just under two kilometres from the hotel. One and a half to two hours in the cheese-making school, guided by people who do this every day, and at the end everyone goes home with their own cheese in a transport box. A really good experience.
That is exactly how we choose the activities at our locations. What goes on the agenda and how to structure it is covered in our article Designing your offsite programme. This one is about what you can actually book on site.
Seven categories to choose from
We sorted every activity at every location into one of these seven categories.
1. Food that everyone joins in on
The most reliable format there is. Nobody stands on the sidelines, everyone has something in their hands, and at the end everyone sits at one table and eats what they made.
- Montafon: cheese-making school at the Käsehaus Montafon. One and a half to two hours, from four up to 120 people. 35 euros per person, 50 euros with a farmhouse buffet. Cheese, transport box and recipe are included. Fixed dates on Saturdays at ten from December to May, other dates on request.
- Sylt: Alexandro Pape's Kochinsel in List runs the Teppanyaki and mudflats format on the OFYR fire ring, 115 euros per person including paired drinks, from ten people.
- Hannover: Foodatlas cooking school, 12 to 40 people, around four hours in total, two of them at the stove. Three to four courses, recipes by a head chef with Michelin-star experience. Menus start at 92 euros per person.
- Bela: wine tasting at Château Béla, with wines from the estate's own vineyard. The sommelier session runs on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 to 5 pm for 29 euros. Taste with the oenologist and you get into the historic cellar under the château, which is otherwise closed: ten samples 55 euros, fifteen 65 euros, groups by arrangement.
- Ahrenshoop: cocktail class at the Seezeichen artists' quarter. A good way to wrap up a long workshop day.
2. Water and wind
The category with the biggest effect. A team standing on a board together for the first time.
- Sylt: three surf schools on the west coast. Kite, windsurf and wing foil spots are a few minutes from the hotel.
- Waren: SUP taster course in the morning, 10 am to noon, 23 euros per person, starting right at the resort's beach. Guided canoe tour across Lake Müritz with funmüritz, 30 euros per person from ten people, around four hours, season May to September.
- Heide: waterskiing and wakeboarding on the 684-metre cable lift at Lake Bernstein, run by the Cable Resort right on the lake. Beginners and experienced riders can ride together here, which is rare.
- Lietzow: SUP rental and a wingsurf school right on the beach, plus beach volleyball and a barbecue area on the grounds.
- Fleesensee: canoe and kayak bookable through the water sports centre. The guided two-hour tour costs around 25 euros per person from four participants, boats are available by the hour or by the day.
3. Nature with a guide
Any team can go hiking on its own. With someone who explains things, it becomes a shared experience instead of a walk in pairs.
- Rantum: mudflat hike with the Schutzstation Wattenmeer, whose station is right at the location. One and a half hours, meeting point Rantum harbour, 13 euros for adults. Dates depend on the tide, sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the early evening.
- Rügen: themed walk at the Königsstuhl National Park Centre, around 90 minutes over one and a half to two kilometres, from ten people, price on request. Topics include chalk and fossils, the wild beech forest, the moor and the traces of Caspar David Friedrich.
- Waren: crane ticket from the National Park Service, 17 August to 31 October, three hours, 21 euros per person, a maximum of 25 people per group. The meeting point is the national park information centre in Federow.
- Ahrenshoop: cranes resting in the Bodden lagoons from September to early November, at peak times up to 70,000 birds spread over the whole resting period.
- Montafon: hiking and trail running straight from the hotel, mountain bike and e-bike tours up to the alpine pastures.
- Friesland: private mudflat hike with the Wattwanderzentrum Ostfriesland, 60 minutes from 120 euros for up to ten people, 90 minutes from 160 euros.
4. Competition, if your team likes competition
- Friesland: team building course at the Upstalsboom, supervised by someone from the hotel. Outdoors there is the spider web, where everyone has to get through a net without touching it, and the seesaw, where the whole team has to stand on it at the same time. Indoors there is Stackman, where you build a figure together, and the Culturallye, a game at several tables with rules nobody knows. The latter trains communication without language.
- Heide: bubble soccer and archery are part of the team building programme at Lake Bernstein. Karting is also possible, a partner runs the indoor track with two circuits on the grounds.
- Fleesensee: soapbox race, where the teams first build their cart and then race it. Plus a castle park olympics with stations such as axe throwing, catapult building and ladder golf.
- Dresden: BattleKart, electric karting with augmented reality, no headset needed. A race takes 15 minutes. From ten people, the first game costs 19 euros.
- Schwerin: the Kontaminiert escape room at Mindescape can be played in battle mode with up to twelve people competing against each other. Better than a room where six solve puzzles and eight watch.
5. Culture and city
Underrated, especially on arrival day. A guided tour on the first afternoon gets everyone into the same mode without anyone having to perform.
- Dresden: group tour at the Dresden State Art Collections.
- Hannover: a 90-minute walk past the landmarks, followed by dinner in the historic wine cellar. Year-round on request.
- Schwerin: Schwerin Castle, nine euros admission instead of 13 from 15 people, booked 60-minute tour for 75 euros per group, a maximum of 25 people.
- Heide: Autostadt Wolfsburg, group tour from 15 people, around 60 minutes.
- Ahrenshoop: galleries in the artists' village, all within walking distance. Works well in small groups with a meeting point at the end.
- Saranda: the UNESCO World Heritage site of Butrint and the Blue Eye as a half-day trip.
6. The morning
The cheapest category, and the one that says the most about the character of an offsite. Half an hour of movement before the first session changes the mood in the room.
- Yoga before the first session. Important: when booking, ask explicitly whether there really is an instructor on site or whether only the room is meant. There is a dedicated offer on Rügen and on Mallorca, among others.
- A shared running route costs nothing and only needs someone to run it once. We are happy to send it to you in advance for each location, with length and starting point.
- Schwerin: the Residence Park has its own wellness business, Vital am See, with sauna, aroma sauna, a salt graduation tower and cryotherapy between minus 110 and minus 160 degrees. Best as a guided session in the late afternoon, not as a free-time tip.
- Montafon: four saunas in the house: Finnish sauna, bio sauna, infrared and steam bath. From 22 May to 6 September, hotel guests also get free entry to the Alpenbad Montafon.
7. Seasonal highlights
These formats only exist in a certain time window. If your offsite falls into that window anyway, they are the highlight.
- Second half of March: the spring crane migration along the Bodden lagoons and at Lake Müritz.
- May to October: Zeesboot sailing trips from Althagen harbour for Ahrenshoop. Charter for up to twelve people from 200 euros for around 90 minutes, 70 euros for each additional half hour. Smoked fish platter 20 euros per person, beer and water on board. Weather-dependent, so plan for it.
- 6 to 9 May 2027: Müritz Sail in Waren, the 25th edition, with several regattas. In Waren itself the programme runs from 7 to 9 May.
- 19 June to 4 September 2027: Störtebeker Festival in Ralswiek, close to Lietzow and Rügen. Monday to Saturday, starts at 8 pm, ends around 10:30 pm, pre-show from 6 pm. That takes care of the evening at the hotel. Group discounts from 21 people with advance payment, but not on Saturdays.
- September to early November: resting cranes and the red deer rut on the Baltic coast.
- 25 November to 24 December 2026: Striezelmarkt Christmas market in Dresden, daily from 10 am to 9 pm. In Hannover three markets open from 23 November.
Frequently asked questions about offsite activities
How many activities fit into three days?
One big and one small. So a half-day format like the cheese-making school, a surf course or the team course, plus something short in the morning. If three activities are on the plan, there is no time left for the conversations you came for.
What about people who do not want to join in?
Plan for it instead of ignoring it. Food formats have the lowest barrier, water sports the highest. Water sports should always come with an equal alternative, for example a guided walk along the shore, so that nobody ends up sitting on the beach as a spectator.
Does it cost extra?
Usually yes, and we put the price into the offer before you book rather than onto the invoice afterwards. Some things are already included, such as sauna and spa at several locations or the Alpenbad in the Montafon in summer.
Can we book an activity without staying with you?
You can book the regional providers yourselves, their prices are mostly public. Our job is to bring accommodation, rooms, catering and programme together in one offer with one contact person. We do not arrange individual activities if you are not staying with us.
How early do we need to decide?
The accommodation needs the longest lead time. For most activities four to six weeks are enough. Exceptions are festivals and anything with fixed dates, where advance ticket sales decide.
Are the prices here binding?
No, prices and seasons change. They only become binding in your offer.
You know when you are going, but not yet where?
Tell us your team size, time frame and what the offsite should achieve. We come back with two or three locations where the activity fits the season.
